I am committed

I wake up
in a cold sweat
the moon sneers -
terrified -
What have I missed.

Life kept life-in,
things
kept happening
while I was amidst.
Lost in terror
of fear
beaten down
by wayward cares.

Finally,

the water receeded a little-
thought I could walk on water
alone...
I must atone
To find my way home
I must walk in the sun

40 Years Long

I could cry...
40 years
long...
a cursed song.
What a fight
40 years of night...
always missing the light.

Why Lord why?

We believe the lies
and never try.
In circles we go
there was no Jericho
only dry dessert land.
Thrist
nearly kill we!
It took a rock.
Still we were loud
and wrong
not strong
we did not believe the Big Man.

40 long years
even after the splitting sea
it took one generation
long...
before we see
touch the Promise Land.

My Twilight

                     For Mrs. J

Now is the twilight
of my life
the shadows
overshadow
me.
A few
stubborn
rays cling to the gray
hairs that adorn
my crown.

Eighty-nine years.

I have travelled far,
seen many
wonderous sights.
Felt
life pulsing
in, around, between
through me.

When I cannot see
you as you are
I see you
as you were.
What a sight!

When the light get's too bright
I sink in the shadows
and glow
with stories of old.
Now in my Twilight.

The Log

The Log

Brothas
come to me
I trying to save you
all in despair
 no hope in sight
you will not be spared.
the evil man do
catch up to you
now is hellfire brimstones!
But rest easy
I am here,
though great your mistakes
do not despair
I will preach
to give you a new day.

So he preached
he did beseech
each man to repent
at length.
But as he walked
one could not help
but see
The Brotha Man
was hinder that day
by the log in his eyes
but he could not see.

The Cornerstone

The Cornerstone

I will make you sit
to see above your head
I will make you kneel
to properly cleanse
I will make you squat
to balance what is on your head
I will make you stand
to see many a horizon
I will make you stretch
to reveal what is hidden
I will make you leap
to grow and touch the sky
I will make you rest
after having passed the many tests
I will be your fortress
so you can shelter from the storms
I will build you up
you will never be destroyed.
