Time For a Change.

So 2020 continues to be a roller coaster of little highs and many lows. Since this year I have packed on the poundage and fallen all the way off my exercise game. To make matters worse, even though it seems like eons ago, it was only January that I was in the best shape of my life. I took it for granted. Then I started to get sick all the time – well more than usual which is saying a lot. So I was sick and it seems since March I have not fully recovered.

Now I have to face the reality of my situation. I have to go to the doctor. I need to take back control instead of eating poorly and feeling sorry about where I am at. Though I have come to dread going to the doctor based on a lack of trust relating to whether or not they can truly help me, I have decided to be as proactive as I can be. Plus something’s been telling me to go, so I am going.

I have also decided to cut back on going on social media and today was the most productive day I have had in awhile, and I am not talking about the erratic productivity that sees you doing everything and still getting nothing done. I have completed the full draft of my Masters paper, something that in January seemed impossible and I feel like something has changed overall today. There has been a shift and I hope this is the beginning of a more fruitful period. I remain hopeful and faithful.

So, today I also ate what I consider to be quite well. I was not constantly hungry, stuffing myself without rhyme or reason and then being sick of it all after. However something strange happened today. I got up, did the necessaries and then exercised and actually ate something reasonably healthy and this continued throughout the day. I will do my best to continue this but I know it will take time and patient – something I did not get enough of at birth.

Above are meals that not only kept me fueled all day but which were also very tasty. These meals represent the signs that change is possible if we do our part. When all the ingredients necessary are provided, it would be a crime to ignore them and let them go to waste. You never know what form that change will take, you just need to make sure you recognise the signs and take action.

It is time for a change and it will not happen unless we pay attention to the signs and make the change possible by taking the necessary route and making the first step speak to the fact that you have a plan. Today was a good day because I decided to take hold of the opportunity to make it so. Will you do the same?

I Knew You.

Your eyes saw my unformed body; all my days were written in Your book and ordained for me before one of them came to be. Psl 139:16

You i knew
before my memory got so poor.
Old age cannot explain why I cannot see you.
I think
but my thoughts are all jumbled:
don'tiknowtheyouyouareandtheyouyouaresupposetobe?
A string of thoughts.
No rhyme or reason.
An idea half formed,
destroyed before it could be born.
Or was it killed,
A dream not born of a woman
or man -
We must always be
'politically correct"
right?
I know of you,
or so I would like to believe.
But do I know you
really
as you should have been?
In setting me a part by my appointment did it work?
If it is your Word that comes
why does it not enter,
why is it locked out,
strangled under the weight of not knowing.
Like a bolom maybe I had lost
my salvation.
How to get it back but to retrace my steps and hope I have my way
back.
A silent cry is what I hear and turn to.
A cry that has no beginning
no ending
no words
no sound.
So loud that it cannot be drowned
Cannot be silenced by the impracticality of your practicality.

If I awaken from my slumber
will I like that piteous monster,
cry to dream again?
one wonders, if a simple awakening is enough.

Too Much Advice!

I am sure you have heard the expression: The more the merrier. Well, too much can be a damaging thing in any situation. This is the same with advice.

Normally we want to hear the opinions of others and trust me they will give it to you and some that you neither asked for nor wanted. People love to give advice whether or not they know what they are talking about. However, if they feel they do, they will never stop. Everyday they meet you they have another juicy piece of morsel they forgot to add to the dish they gave you. Often times you end up deeply regretting that you asked.

People will give advice based on what they know of themselves, their world and their experiences. So really the advice may not match your situation but just reveals what they know or have learned about themselves. I am not saying this is always the case, but, I am sure we all know people who are like the above.

Then you have others whom you did not ask but who gave it anyway and left you feeling insecure about something you planned to do.

Getting advice or a second and third opinion is wise but don’t take them all and run with them – I realize the irony as I give you this advise.

Once you have gathered all those varying voices you have to decide whether you will take one or two or none. At the end of the day getting and taking advice does not have to mean you give away your power to make your own decisions. Getting advice should be about realizing your options and not being limited by someone else’s perspective. You cannot escape making a difficult decision by seeking advice, only delay it. Neither can you acquire a partner in crime, because most persons who readily give the advice that you seek are either thinking hypothetically or are happy not to be in your shoe – and they don’t want to step in it.

Also consider that the person you seek for words of wisdom, may be ‘wise’ to your situation and not their own. The point is, do not think that there is any perfect person who has it all together. Everything in life is based on trial and error, so the advice you get may not work for the situation YOU find yourself in and it may or may not have worked for that person. Yes, life is that complicated.

Also, if you don’t want the advice, give a gracious thank you and keep it moving.
