What’s the Point? Get Back On!

What's the Point? Get Back On!

The wagon left me
standing in this fog
and I cannot see.
The horse betrayed me
after I had fed it
all my hopes and dreams
and nothing's left it seems.
Here I stand
dead man standing.
So what do I do now?

Do you see him
standing so still
he doesn't know it
but he is killing his dreams.
He is blinded by the fear
of failure.
The horse he laments
is waiting for him just down the bend.
The wagon jumped off
is waiting too,
for the driver to take control
and carry on again.
but sadly he and other like him
will remain stuck in their distrust
of themselves.

Get off the ground!
Get back on
the wagon you abandoned.

A Small Still Voice

A Small Still Voice

I want to sit in this corner
because there is no one to turn to
but I cannot
each time I think
I might
for a second
a small still voice nudges me
"why are you here?"
"Did you forget where you come from?"
"Get up!" it said
"and breathe!" it said
"and continue."
So timidly I sat up
and crawled
ever so slowly.
But the voice stopped me dead
"why do you linger
where you will not grow?"
"I have given you all you need
now go."
With that I found the courage to stand
steady and go about my life.

And as I made each uncertain step
that same small still voice led.

Looking Around?

Are you looking around to find who you are? Are you stalking every platform to find that one message that will have all the answers you need to discover yourself and finally understand your purpose? Well if you are you need to reconsider if this is the right course and if you are doing this for the right reasons.

It is always good to seek out good examples that can help you in your own journey, but I believe there is no need to spend the entirety of your life watching videos, perusing writings and listening to speeches that can show you the way. At some point, it must become clear that there is a limit to how much these sources can be the bridge between you and realising your purpose, to living. I have come to realise that we will find ourselves only when we take a good look within and do the work that needs doing from within.

We sometimes are not satisfied with our own appreciation of ourselves and what we can do. We search ceaselessly for validation in every corner of our world and may still not be happy with any answer. Whatever you do must be from you and must be spurred by a desire and ability to do so. Who you are must be true to what is inside of you and not reflect what has been determined by what is outside of you. Though I have been motivated by others to do many things, I realise that I cannot rely on them to help my dream flourish, to make it stay alive. The moment I started to think of myself as a writer, was the moment I started to believe I could publish a book, even if no one ever bought it and even if I had to do it alone. Whenever it was needed it would be there ready, waiting to be consumed.

Stop looking around for someone to make you feel like you are capable because you already are. Stop looking for the perfect answers to all your problems, nothing is perfect and many things happen because of trial and error. Stop expending so much energy on getting the right message, listen to that soft still voice, until it is loud enough to propel you to act in a way that is true to you. Stop searching and find what is already in your hand and that will be enough.

Now Hiring

Now Hiring

Now hiring!
common sense
to see the truth and accept it
a willing heart
to do what must be done
a steady hands
to act without fear
so as not to become undone
by terrors that suddenly appear
a truthsayer
to see through
all the bullshit and half truths
of the serpents' fruits.

There is no monetary reward
but know you will never regret
taking this chance to reset
your mind
your soul
your heart
so once more
you can restart.

Your Store Basket

Living in Jamaica, I have heard many Jamaican proverbs or proverbs that have now become entrenched in the culture of Jamaica. One that I have often heard but never really analysed is this proverb said especially when a receiver wants to express their heartfelt appreciation to the giver:

May your store basket never go empty

I have had reason to think about it lately as many challenges have led me to many near crisis. I wonder if my store basket goes empty what do I have to offer. What will I have for myself? A season of great uncertainty and crisis is never a nice season to be in when every thing seems to carry some kind of burden and the forecast of a reversal of fortunes seem improbable. What will I have?

Well, there are many more things in that basket a part from the good fortunes you once had. Those good times are temporal, and I remember that there have always been seasons of instability, but, they never last. And while the forecast may look unfavourable, around a corner hidden from view is the reversal of fortune waiting to be assumed.

Now, while we experience that unstable season, what is there to do? Well for me though something in my basket has been exhausted there are many more resourceful tidbits to see me through such times. Of much more value are friends who may not know of your situation but who you can rely on to always be willing to provide the distraction you need, who will understand that in this season while you may not be at your best, they can still see the best parts of you and love all of you. Then, there is also family, family members who from time to time you may not see eye to eye, will be there for you. If they do not have the solution rest assured that they will not leave you – more return to being annoying – until you are strong enough not to need the crutch they can be. However, of great importance too is your faith that God has got you, faith that things will change and this season too will be but only a memory.

You determine whether or not your store basket will go empty. If you are not able to look beyond what you do not have, to what you do, then those things that remain will disappear too. So, may your store basket never go empty, may you always see the cup half full instead of half empty, until your season of renewal comes through.

They are Trying to Kill Me…

They are Trying to Kill Me

They are trying to kill me
but I am not cooperating.
Each day they look my way
and say
see our mule there
see how it works
a better worker minus any quirks?
I sit when I am told
but not for long
'tis dandgrous
when their intent is murderous.
Alway have eyes
in the back of the head
your life is worth more
than any mouldy piece of bread.
They sit high and look low
but you must know
at all times where the wind blows.
When they think I strive
but all I try to do is survive.
one two three step at a time
I will pull the wool
over their eyes
to protect my life.

Facing my Giants

Facing my Giants

There they stand
towering
while everything beneath them
is cowering
already defeated,
they breathe death
already vanquished
they are already dust.
no breeze to blow them
they simply melt into the dirt
They get even smaller
while their enemies grow taller.

They say I should follow
but I hesitate.
What they offer
my heart cannot tolerate.

I cannot stand by
and be destroyed,
I must fight back
go on the attack
cut down these giants
in open defiance.

I will not be stopped
my powers have been unlocked
by the mystery of who I am,
no, not one of the damned
or a slaughtered lamb.

I am a warrior,
I will not lose.
I have the heart of a lion
more powerful thany any giant.
